Engineering Class

I went to see these engineering students last Wednesday (April 20th) with my speech therapist, Caren Powell and we both did a great job. These students are 1st years Masters Degree students. They work with the Center for Inclusive Design through the University of Colorado. We went to the BioScience buildings at the Anshutz Campus.

We went to talk about my power chair and my communication device. I love my speech therapist’s expertise. Wow, I wish I could have that expertise.

We told them about my equipment and what works well and what my challenges are. They asked great questions and I told them about how I use these things everyday. I hope I can see them again. Hopefully this will help them design equipment for people with all kinds of needs.

Thank you for letting me exchange ideas with you!

Children’s Hospital is my Favorite (and so is Dr. Joyce)

This place is near and dear to our hearts and so is this doctor. I was at the South Campus today to see Dr. Joyce. This campus is much more quiet and intimate than the main campus. I feel like I get the best care ever there. When I have to have a procedure, they have quiet induction rooms and I can be with my mom while I go to sleep. And this angel (Dr. Joyce) will hold my hand.

Don’t get me wrong, the main campus is amazing too, but it is louder and busier and I like calm. They are both my home away from home.

I have known Dr. Joyce since I was in 8th grade (10 years). I have had so many hospital stays with her and I am ok because I get to see her most of the time. I wish you all could meet this sweet angel!!!

They are starting to talk about transitions to adult care and I am really scared to leave this doctor. I hope it doesn’t have to happen for a long time.

I ate lunch there today and it is so much quieter than the main campus. The main campus is so big and so is their cafeteria. I like the smaller, quieter cafeteria. I had their wings and French fries and my mom had the daily special–pot pie (I helped her eat that). The pot pie was the bomb. They homemade the top crust and it was so good! I would really recommend the pot pie if you go to the South Campus.

I know some people don’t like to go to the hospital, but I really do!

My Surgery

I am worried about surgery. Can you guys help me wake up safely like I normally would at the hospital? I am not waking up as easily after iron infusion with Dr. Smith. I will be there on May 26th. Can you please let my mom back in the operating room because she knows me the best? It wouldn’t be normal for me to be there without her. If I start telling you I am hot, you won’t understand me and that is what happened last time two years ago.

Can my bloggers send me a happy memory so I have good thoughts in my brain?

My Iron Infusion

I am getting an iron infusion. They give it to me through an IV. I will be more energetic after I have the infusion. May 8th is my last day on lock down and I am looking forward to having more energy to hang out with people. Let me know when you want to hang out with me after May 8th. I am looking forward to seeing people but keeping socially distance.

Please see my last weeks blog and send me suggestions and write me letters.

Thank you for always supporting me. Your support has been greatly appreciated!
